Maryland Governor Wes Moore's Welcome Message at Blooming Day Maryland 2025

"Hey everybody, it's Governor Wes Moore and it's an honor to welcome you to Blooming Day and thank you all for the work you do every day to strengthen Maryland's communities and our public health.

Today's gathering brings together leaders across government and healthcare and community care—all under one purpose: to make sure that every Marylander can thrive.

When my administration came into office, we came with a commitment to build a state that leaves no one behind. And that means a government that's transparent, accountable, and deeply connected to the people that it serves.

We've turned those values into action. Investing in the landmark Enough Initiative to target and end childhood poverty in Maryland, launching a new Department of Service and Civic Innovation, and advancing one of the most comprehensive housing and child care investment packages in Maryland's history.

Now, strong communities start with strong systems of care and prevention. And that's why we prioritize expanding access to health care and public health services, especially in historically underserved communities.

We also understand that federal policy decisions have real and tangible effects on our state's ability to deliver these services. Whether it's Medicaid, maternal health programs, or support for our behavioral health systems, these policies shape everyday lives of Marylanders.

So our administration is meeting those challenges head on by building the infrastructure and partnerships needed to help keep our residents covered no matter what happens at the federal level and strengthening the safety net so many more Maryland families can survive and thrive not just today but in the long term.

And we're doing it the Maryland way—in collaboration. We're bringing together state agencies, community-based organizations, innovators, and hospitals because sustainable systems only work when everyone has a seat at the table.

Technology plays a big role in that vision and I've seen how digital tools can help bridge gaps, improve coordination, and connect people to services faster without barriers or bureaucracy.

So to everyone participating in Blooming Day, thank you. Thanks for your leadership, for your creativity, for your commitment to improving health outcomes for all Marylanders. The work you're doing today, the conversations you're having, the ideas that you're building will shape our future for years to come.

Together, we're proving that when Maryland leads, the nation follows. And together, we're going to move forward stronger, smarter, and more connected than ever.
